Track: Young & Beautiful
Artist: Lana Del Rey
Year: 2013The lovely Lana Del Rey everyone *applause*. This song dropped this past week, as a song to be featured in the coming ‘Great Gatsby’ (2013) film. I love the orchestral background and the lyrics. “Will you still love me when I’m no longer young and beautiful? Will you still love me when I got nothing but my aching soul? I know you will. I know you will. I know that you will… Will you still love me when I’m no longer beautiful?” As women, we are aware of the fact that our outer beauty will inevitably change (I won’t say fade because some women grow even more beautiful with age or stay untouched by time at all). Some women embrace it, but most women fear it. It’s a deep-seated cultural fear that has been taken advantage of by the beauty industry, telling young women that they are only beautiful with makeup and that older women must actively fight against aging (a totally natural process btw). As if no woman is enough as she is… But back to the track! I love the authenticity and desperation in Lana’s voice, and if you have the chance, you should see her live (or at least a YouTube video of a live performance) because she’s wonderful. I know you will.
More to love when your hands are free
Baby put your pom poms down for me
Come on shake it up 123
Baby put your pom poms down for me
Yeah they come from miles away
Just to see how you get down
Feels like an earthquake
Every time you come around
